Galveston

I visited Galveston with Rochelle last week to celebrate a friend's 21st birthday. The last time I was down there was to photograph a wedding in Houston and took a day trip to the beach. I got to spend a little more time cooking myself up a tan in the midst of Texas' 100 degree weather.

We started the trip off at Landry's. A seafood chain that also is apart of Rainforest Cafe, I found out today. The shrimp there was good.

A photo of Luyi, the birthday girl, at the table with breakfast on her mind.

One of Luyi's roommates silenced her dogs as their attention went to the cat, Remy Jack, of the house.

The dogs attention turned onto each other as the whiteboard in the back notes one more day until the birthday.

Rochelle playing with RJ, as two girls get ready to go out.

A wide shot of the beach with a building in the middle of reconstruction after Hurricane Ike demolished it.

There's no point in going to the beach until you run sand through your hands of course.

On the way back, we had to compare our heights with that of Sam Houston, since his head appears to be in the clouds. He must love watching traffic all day.

Four

A few recent images; the first was a quick portrait of an incoming freshman, Hannah DuBois.

The next one was of a member of our UTA SAE Racing team gearing up to compete against about 90 other schools in Fontana, Cali. in the SAE West Competition.

An ode to Father's Day, I caught Terry Duncan taking a break with his wife, Elizabeth, and son, Andrew, amidst the choatic final year of their school careers.

Lastly, definitely a way to cool off and beat the Texas heat, Ryan Martin and his girlfriend Caitlin Johnson didn't mind to distance themselves for a bit from friends at a local pool yesterday afternoon.

Relaxation

With Summer I can stretch my arms a bit before finish up my last year of college in the Fall. I'm currently taking a Special Studies: Portrait class and continuing my photography position at The Shorthorn.

I took these two on separate days that summed up those quiet, summer days on campus.

A-Kon 2009

I photographed A-Kon, celebrating its 20th annual anime convention, over the weekend at the Sheraton in Dallas. This was my first time attending a convention like this. The majority of the attendees dressed up as characters from Naruto, with an occasional character from one of Hayao Miyazaki's films.

The event had numerous vendors selling anything from tiny figurines to elaborate gowns and etnic foods.

Father's Day is June 21

It's not too late to book a family session and surprise dad with some great images that will stand the test of time.

Talented violinist and teacher Shinichi Suzuki once declared, "Children learn to smile from their parents." This year, you can take that smile and pass it on as an unforgettable gift. And don't forget to ask about print enlargement, photo books, and other gift options.

Also, you may have noticed that I now have a watermark on these images. I give my thanks to Laura Sliva, who helped me design this logo; check her out here!

Melinda Tillery Graduation

Melinda Tillery, a UTA graduating nursing senior, and I recently photographed at the Levitt Pavilion in downtown Arlington. We took a casual stroll around the site and photographed at a building across as well. We finished off the session with the cap and gown in the studio, which was very fun!

It was a blast to work with Melinda and look forward to shoots in the future!

Summer Plans

Hello everyone,

Just thought I'd drop a line to wish all of the Mothers a "Happy Mother's Day!" I also wanted let you know some of what I've been working on lately!

Graduation is coming up, and so I've shot both college graduates, who are done with it all, and high school graduates, who are moving up to the next step. Springtime also seems to be the time for babies and for love, so I've been shooting several infant and family portrait sessions, as well as booking weddings. You can see some examples of these shoots on this blog, or you can email and request a specific gallery link from my website.

The summer is going to be an exciting time for me, because I've made the decision to take off from being photo editor of The Shorthorn newspaper to really focus on my shooting. I love the job and my coworkers, but it has me managing several photographers and doesn't give me the time and flexibility to shoot as much myself, both for the paper and for my own enterprises.

Finally, to past and future clients, just a reminder-- as always, you're more than welcome to use your photos on facebook, a blog, or other such social mediums, but please credit Rasy Ran Photography or www.rasyran.com somewhere on the page. Referrals are how we receive most of our business, and we'd love to give your friends and family the same quality service we feel we've given you! Thanks again for all the times we've worked together, and I look forward to photographing for y'all again!

Veronica and Gordo's Graduation

Thought I'd post some of my favorites from Veronica and Gordo's graduation photoshoot.

We started at Swan Court in Plano and moved to her home to finish off the cap and gown session with the studio lights. The youngest sister, Layla, joined in as well. I really enjoyed photographing them!

Jar Wars

I photographed Jar Wars, an annual Baptist Student Ministry fundraiser every April, tonight. BSM had 11 missionaries attending 30 countries and 16 states, starting summer. The fundraiser consisted of guys and girls bidding for candidates to slip and slide into spaghetti.

A handful of photos

A few shoots I've done recently.

UTA vs McNeese State. We won 2 out of 3 in the series.

A headshot of Kent Long, a communications junior, running for Student Congress President.

A few Muslim Student Assocation members socializing before the start of a talk on Islam and its contribution to humanity.

Portrait of David McGinnis. He won first place in the Main Street Arts Festival’s third Fearless Film Festival.

Last, David Ramriez spend his time relaxing at the end of a long lunch.

Car accidents

I photographed two car accidents today. Three people evacuated their car after there was smoke emitting from the steering wheel and eventually the car was engulfed in flames. Nobody was hurt.

Then a couple of hours later, a driver struck a tree on a fraternity lawn after hitting a car on the road. The driver of the white car was hospitalized. The other driver made it without any serious injuries.
